Pastor, Curtis L. Johnson was born on June 14, 1972 to Curtis and Margaret Johnson in Killen, Texas. He accepted Christ at a young age, Upon graduation from high school he entered the Arkansas Army National Guard and attended one station unit training at Fort Benning, George to become an 11 Bravo Infantryman. He then entered active duty in December 1993.
Pastor Johnson accepted his call into the ministry in December 2002. After accepting his call he soon was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi freedom in February 2003 and would later in that year give his initial sermon. Upon completion of his tour in Iraq, Pastor Johnson redeployed and assumed duties and responsibilities as the youth Minister of the Giebelstadt Gospel Service in Giebelstadt, Germany. A year after his deployment; he deployed to Afghanistan where he served as leader of the marriage enrichment class. After deployment to Afghanistan Pastor Johnson would have a permanent change of station from Germany to Fort Hood Texas where he served as a minister counselor for the Christian House of Prayer. In September of 2006 Pastor Johnson deployed again to Iraq where he served as the Pastor of the Camp Taji Gospel Service from October 2006 to October 2007. Upon another permanent change of station in April 2009 Pastor Johnson arrived at Fort Lee, Virginia, where he served as a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Robert Diggs Sr., Pastor. He served as the chair of the Boyz2men mentoring program, teaching Sunday school, Children’s Church, New Members class and also served as a Youth Advisor.
On October 19, 2017 Pastor Curtis L. Johnson was installed as the Pastor of Mount Bethel Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Pastor Johnson came to Mount Bethel Baptist Church with many attributes, passions and one vision that the Lord had laid on his heart, as well as the qualifications, experience and training that God has equipped him with such as the spiritual gift of preaching and teaching His Word.
Pastor Johnson met his soul mate and married the former Danette Green of Bastrop, La. They have been married for 26 yrs and are blessed with two gifts from God; Courtney, age 25 a 2016 Graduate of Virginia State University and David age 17 whose passion is baseball and bass fishing. Pastor Johnson has a Masters of Divinity from The Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University and a Doctorate Degree in Pastoral Counseling from Liberty University. His guiding scripture is “For we walk by Faith, not by Sight” (2Cor 5:7).
